Preschool (Age 3 - PreK)
What to Expect
The preschoolers meet in God's Big Backyard on the upper level of our children's wing. As parents and children arrive, they check in at the entrance to the wing. Parents and children are then directed to a classroom for their age group.
As they arrive, kids are engaged in free play and activities with the other children that introduce them to the day's Bible story. After everyone has arrived and they have had several minutes to complete the activities, children from all classrooms join together in The Clubhouse for worship and interactive story time. When large group is complete, the children return to their classrooms for a variety of activities which reinforce the lesson and teach them how the bottom line applies to them in their everyday life. These activities include group games, crafts or memory verse exercises.

Questions You Might Be AskingWhat to Bring
Nothing is needed for your preschooler! We are typically not equipped to change diapers or pull-ups in this age group. If additional supports are needed for you child to learn with us, please alert the attendant when you register so the Children's Pastor can develop a care plan with you for you child; especially if they are not not potty trained or have any other special need. Well Child Policy While every child is important to us, we must think of what is best for the whole. We ask that you not bring your child if they have had any of the following symptoms of a contagious illness within 24 hours of the service. We ask the same of our volunteers. Fever above 100 degrees F Vomiting Diarrhea (more than one occurrence) Any unexpected rash or skin condition Eye Infection (especially Pink Eye) Any other contagious illness Promotion Beginning at age 3 children promote based upon their school calendar grade/age. However, because of the increasing structure and teaching at each age, a 3 year old may remain in the 2 year old room or need to be accompanied by a parent for a time in the 3 year old room until they learn to participate in our large group setting for story time and worship and to then transition back to their small group activity classroom. As a general guideline, preschoolers are promoted based on the public school calendar; that is their age on August 1 of the year. All preschool ages are combined for the Wednesday night kidzEXperience and Sunday School. |
What We Teach
You can see a full description of our primary curriculum used during our Sunday kidzEX(perience) and current month samples here. Parent resources for the current month are available here. For preschool, we reinforce learnings from the previous Sunday First Look lessons during our Wednesday night kidzU semesters in the fall and spring. Watch for the start of the next semester of kidzU here.
We use curriculum from Cokesbury for Preschool Sunday School called Deep Blue Kids.
